Thank You for the Music

Dear friends!

Thank you so much for all the positive feelings we've got from today English class! It was a real pleasure to listen to all the songs you've presented and learned the stories that were behind them! Thank you for sharing your music as well as your thoughs and emotions with us! We've had a wonderful class today!
And as a follow-up we are to present our favourite pieces of British music.
Again, try to guess which song belogs to which teacher )))

The first song is dedicated to a singer but an American one. The song 'She's Madonna' was inspired by the conversation that a British pop singer Robbie Williams had with the ex-girl friend of a British director Guy Ritchie (Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels; Snatch; Revolver) Tania Strecker. Ritchie broke up with Miss Strecker to be with an American pop diva Madonna. His last words were, "Look, you know, I really love you, but she's Madonna". After that the song was written and perform by Robbie Williams

She's Madonna  LYRICS
Oh, Madonna, Madonna

I don't miss you
Just who
You used to be
And you don't ring true
So please
Stop calling me
Your "I love you"'s
Are ten a penny
You're dropping clues
Like you've got any
You got to choose
There's been so many ohhhh

I love you baby
But face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
Could say that he don't want her
This look of love
Says I'm leaving
You're frozen now
I've done the freezing
I'm walking out
Madonna's calling me

She's got to be
Obscene to be believed
That's her routine
Not what she means to me
I found myself
By circumstance
Across a room
Where people dance
And quite by chance
She' danced right next to me

I love you baby
But face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
Would say that he don't want her
It's me not you
I've got to move on
You're younger too
But she's got her groove on
I'm sorry love
Madonna's calling me

Oh, Madonna, Madonna

I want to tell you a secret

We're having drinks
With Kate and Stella
Gwyneth's here
She's brought her fella
But all I wanna do
Is take Madonna home

I love you baby
But face it she's Madonna
No man on earth
Would say that he don't want her
It's me not you
I've got to move on
You're younger too
But she's got her groove on
I'm sorry love
Madonna's calling me

The second song is a part of the musical Jesus Christ Superstar created by two great Britons - the composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and the poet Tim Rice. In this song, Everything's Allright, Mary Magdalene is trying to comfort Jesus Christ in the evening after a long hard day.

Everything's Alright  LYRCS

MARY MAGDALENE

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And we want you to sleep well tonight.
Let the world turn without you tonight.
If we try, we'll get by, so forget all about us tonight

APOSTLES' WIVES

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

MARY MAGDALENE

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you, and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead, oh.
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool, and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes
And relax, think of nothing tonight.

APOSTLES' WIVES

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

JUDAS

Woman your fine ointment, brand new and expensive
Should have been saved for the poor.
Why has it been wasted? We could have raised maybe
Three hundred silver pieces or more.
People who are hungry, people who are starving
They matter more than your feet and hair!

MARY MAGDALENE

Try not to get worried, try not to turn on to
Problems that upset you, oh.
Don't you know

APOSTLES' WIVES and MARY

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

JESUS

Surely you're not saying we have the resources
To save the poor from their lot?
There will be poor always, pathetically struggling.
Look at the good things you've got.
Think while you still have me!
Move while you still see me!
You'll be lost, and you'll be sorry when I'm gone.

MARY MAGDALENE

Sleep and I shall soothe you, calm you and anoint you.
Myrrh for your hot forehead/
Then you'll feel
Everything's alright, yes, everything's fine.
And it's cool and the ointment's sweet
For the fire in your head and feet.
Close your eyes, close your eyes, and relax
Think of nothing tonight.

APOSTLES' WIVES

Everything's alright, yes, everything's alright, yes.

MARY MAGDALENE

Close your eyes, close your eyes, and relax

  1. It's a great choice, I like some songs of Robby,'cause he was one of those singers, who was listened to by my sister, when I'm was a little girl, the second song is so melodic, that I would sleep very fast under this song after a long hard day...
