Christopher Robin went down with
"A soldier's life is terrible hard,"
Says
They're changing guard at
Christopher Robin went down with
We saw a guard in a sentry-box.
"One of the sergeants looks after their socks,"
Says Alice.

We looked for the King, but he never came.
"Well, God take care of him, all the same,"
Says Alice.

They've great big parties inside the grounds.
"I wouldn't be King for a hundred pounds,"
Says Alice.

A face looked out, but it wasn't the King's.
"He's much too busy a-signing things,"

Maybe, it's a good poem, but I evidently don't understand English humour, if this poem has it, of course. But solders on the pictures are wonderful. ((((=
ОтветитьУдалитьMasha, as it seems to me, it is not abour humor, this poem I mean... Just imagine a 5 (or 6)-year-old boy who's watching a changing of the guard at the Buckingham Palace. What can be interesting for him? What kind of questions can he ask? Of course, he wants to see the King and he's asking his Nanny about him all the time ))) To my mind, this poem shows us the ceremony of changing the guard as an ordinary boy can see it )) Hope I've cleary described my thoughts about this poem ) Thank you for your comment )))
