Poem of the Week

The name of Robert Burns is known for everyone who is fond of poetry. His simple but light and melodious verses are admired by millions of readers all over the world. Being a Scotsman, Burns wrote his poems in the Scots language or Scots dialect of English. Nowadays Robert Burns is regarded as the national poet of Scotland. One of his most popular poems is titled 'A Red, Red Rose', it became a popular song soon after being written. We invite you to read it and enjoy as it is about love, faithfulness, tenderness and patience - the feelings that everyone are familiar with.

O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That’s sweetly play'd in tune.

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,

So deep in luve am I:

And I will luve thee still, my dear,
Till a’ the seas gang dry:

Till a’ the seas gang dry, my dear,
And the rocks melt wi’ the sun:
I will luve thee still, my dear,
While the sands o’ life shall run.

And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho’ it were ten thousand mile.

The song performed by a Scottish musician Andy Stewart
